sac|ra|ment «SAK ruh muhnt», noun.
1. a solemn religious ceremony of the Christian church. In Roman Catholic and Eastern Churches there are seven sacraments: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Penance, Extreme Unction or Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Matrimony. From the 1500's, Protestants generally have had two sacraments only—Baptism and Communion. SYNONYM(S): rite.
2. Often, Sacrament. a) Communion (the Eucharist or Lord's Supper). b) the consecrated bread and wine. c) the bread alone (the Host).
3. something especially sacred: »
